Q 1. What are Fair Maids

A. In Cornwall,, England, smoked pilchards are called "Fair Maids" a singular name, of which Professor Max Muller gives the following explanation: "The smoked pilchards are largely exported to Genoa, and are eaten during Lent. They are called In Italian funcada, 'smoked fish.' The Cornish sailors picked up that word. naturalised it, gave it an intelligable meaning, and thus became according to their own confessions exporters of "fair maids". From the Otago Witness , Issue 2255, 20 May 1897, Page 50

A, St Kevin. This is the statue of  Michael Joseph (also known as Michael An Gof ; An Gof is Cornish for blacksmith) and Thomas Flamank (a Bodmin landowner's son and London lawyer) they led the Cornish Rebellion of 1497.

A. 1907, on the 7th of March the S.S. Suervic. was shipwrecked off the Lizard and 456 people were rescued by the Lifeboat crew  in rowing boats. Some members of the crew rowed for 12 hours.
