Let's Experience Cornwall

By: Les Merton

Let's catch the light down in St Ives,
Rock Logan Stone upon its perch,
Kneel at the grave where Jenner lies,
And find peace in Gunwalloe Church.

Let's see the magic in Merlin's spells,
Lament for Tristan and Iseult at Castle Dore,
Hear the ghostly sounds of Lyonesse Bells
And climbed Brown Willy and Roughtor.

Let's show our pride on St Piran's Day,
Leave footprints in the sand at Gyllingvase,
Light a Midsummer Eve's bonfire on Carn Brea,
And sing a Gwennap Pit song of praise.

Let's believe in healing power at Holywell,
Acknowledge our coasts potential to wreck,
Admire the edifice of Roche Rock's Chapel
And celebrate harvest with crying the neck.

Let's watch the cascade at Golitha Falls,
Explore below grass down in Geevor mine,
Listen in awe as King Arthur's spirit calls
And touch the polished face of serpentine.

Let's follow paths lined with golden gorse,
Collect shells on the beach at Porthcurnow,
Go from Troy Town to its river's source
And rest in Hawker's hut at Morwenstow.

Let's honour this experience at the close,
Help our culture and history to survive,
Respect Cornwall in its metamorphose
And enjoy the quintessence that's alive.
